Understanding Medicare and Medicare Supplemental Insurance
When you turn 65 (or when you leave employment after age 65) you are eligible to enroll in our national Medicare program. It is sometimes difficult to understand what Medicare involves and why it’s important or essential to us. If this is the case for you, you can find a list of everything covered by Medicare to understand it a little better and why it can benefit your future health greatly. In addition to enrolling into the Medicare program, you are also entitled to enroll in one of the many private plans that are available through insurance companies. Such plans are divided into two categories; Medicare Supplement Plans and Medicare Advantage Plans. The correct choice of a Medicare plan depends on each person’s personal circumstances. These include current medical conditions and past medical history, financial position, and physician relationships. Each year at open enrollment for January 1 effective date, the Medicare beneficiary can chose among the plans available in their market.
